Moving patients

Image
Being a COTA I assumed would all be about dressing and feeding (and you be right) but when you work in a skilled nursing facility (SNF) the primary thing you assist patients with is transfers. I cannot clarify how important having a gait belt is. This right here is a life saver! Transferring a patient from their bed to wheelchair I have told could be used with the waistband but if they lost their balance, easing them to the ground safely would be easier on them (and your back) with one of these. Don't hesitate to buy one and keep it by your side at all times. Thanks for reading. Click here to get one!   (EDIT: So this blog is new and I'm still figuring things out. I think the way to make this blog stand out from the rest is instead of suggesting why this device is needed, I'm goiong to placed a story (funny or sad) where the item was necessary. Next post will be a revision of thei post. Thanks for reading)

Occupational therapy is the life for me

WELCOME!  It's 2024 and the beginning of my 8 years as a OTA. Occupational therapy was never an aspiration of mine when career choices were being passed out. Occupational therapy is defined as:  a form of therapy for those recuperating from physical or mental illness that encourages rehabilitation through the performance of activities required in daily life. I never heard of the job before I began working in the health industry as an EMT. Dispite all those things, I really enjoy it! Seeing patients overcome great odds handed to them via a storke, accident, or illness and being apart of their return to their daily routine is an awesome feeling. Or at least an adaptive version of their daily routine. Now lets continue my journey into the rehab world and I hope this site helps you reader.  Thanks for reading.
